The McMaster Humanities Society (MHS) and the Humanities Caucus of the Student Representative Assembly (SRA) are pleased to present “Art Matters Week.” Art Matters Week is an annual celebration of the arts and the flourishing community of artists at McMaster University and in the greater Hamilton community. This year the campaign has a renewed emphasis on the importance of art across all faculties and professions, outreaching to all to get involved.  

The campaign will run from Monday, March 7 to Friday, March 11, 2016 and will feature a series of free events across campus. A specialized event will be held each day to showcase the importance of art, with smaller events hosted by McMaster Humanities Clubs throughout the day. The final event on Friday, March 11, 2016 will be held in the atrium, showcasing the incredible art made by McMaster students from all faculties and years. Enjoy a fun night with food, networking, and good company! McMaster Alumni Association, in partnership with the SRA Humanities and MHS, is hosting an Alumni Mixer where students can network with both graduate students and current undergraduate students. The event will also host a discussion space for audience input, so bring your questions and your appetite!

Art Matters Week Faculty Panel Discussion
A Faculty-wide connection to the Arts is a panel comprised of various professors from different faculties to demonstrate that the Arts are applicable outside of the Humanities and that it helps connect many individuals on the McMaster campus in our everyday lives.The participation would assist the ongoing discussion about the complexities of the Arts from a new and a variety of perspectives. This panel discussion will take place in the Psychology Building’s new and innovative LIVELab. Our goal is to host a discussion that encourages a positive outlook and allows the audience to think about the role of their work in a transformed manner. 

Panelists include: Dr. Laurel Trainor (Faculty of Science), Dr. Art Heidebrecht (Faculty of Engineering), Dr. Teal McAteer (Degroote School of Business), Dr. Ken Cruikshank (Dean of Humanities), Hartley Jafine MA (Faculties of Health Sciences & ArtSci)

Art Matters Week McMaster Museum of Art Wine & Cheese
The McMaster Museum of Art is currently showcasing an exhibit entitled “Picturing Wellness”. We are excited to support this exhibit and realize the importance of the Arts as a means of expression. Furthermore, this is a cool and unique opportunity to engage with professors. Meet the Faculty of Humanities outside of the classroom and engage with the individuals who help enrich the McMaster humanities. Light refreshments will be served.

"M.A.C." - McMaster Art Crawl: A Student Showcase
Art Crawl is an event that helps unite Hamilton artists in the downtown core and we thought we would do the same on our McMaster campus! This student showcase will allow you to meet student artists of all kinds, and our own art crawl will be open for display from 10am-3pm in the MUSC Atrium. The event will feature a live painting by Toronto artist Rob Jolicoeur starting at 12:30PM.

The CSMMSS is so excited to announce the annual StratComm competition of 2016 as a part of Arts Matters Week! Join us to watch three extremely talented groups present their communications plan for local businesses in the Hamilton area. StratComm is an extra curricular competition for enthusiastic communications and multimedia students of all years who form small groups and are paired with a business to create a strategic communications plan. With a panel of judges composed of some of the most elite professionals in the industry, you won't want to miss out on this incredible event!
